In the aim of training highly-skilled specialists in the field of biotechnology and technology of medicinal plants growing on the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute Pharmacy faculty basis in 1992 there were opened new educational branches: agronomy and biotechnology.
Students of agronomy acquire knowledge and skills of growing medicinal plants, technology of fertilization, combating agricultural pests and plants diseases, making the laboratory, vegetation, lysimetric experiments, obtaining the ecologically pure raw materials, processing, storing and standardization on the basis of normative-technical documents.
Students after graduating from the branch are able to work on specialized farms growing medicinal plants, in organizations and offices of the Republic of Uzbekistan Committee for Preserving Nature, fit bars, in forestry of the Republic of Uzbekistan Agriculture and Water Resources Ministry, as well as to continue their study in master's degree department on specialty of "Biotechnology of medicinal plants".
Students of the biotechnology branch after graduating from the institute take qualification of engineer-technologist of ready medicinal and fit preparations and further can continue their study in master's degree department on specialty of "Technology of immune-biological and microbiological preparations".
Nowadays 265 bachelor students and 15 master's degree students study on the faculty.
On the faculty basis a biotechnology laboratory "Agro ecologist", where experienced specialists in the field of medicinal plants biotechnology work, has been created.
Students of the faculty have their practical training on different pharmaceutical plants and in the training-health camp "Pharmacist" which is situated in the mountains of Chimgan.
In 2006-2007 a new direction of study - "Cosmetology" which is planning to train the engineers-technologists for producing cosmetic preparations was opened on the faculty.
