The urgent problems of pharmacy nowadays are providing the people of the Republic of Uzbekistan with highly effective, safety and convenient for application new medicines as well as improving available technologies and methods of their analysis.

In the institute the purposeful scientific researches are carried out on the following directions:

• working out scientifically well-grounded technology of growing long-term wild medicinal plants of Uzbekistan
• working out and biopharmaceutical researches of medicinal preparations on the basis of local natural raw materials
• the purposeful synthesis of remedies on the basis of coordinative compounds
• pharmacoeconomic and marketing researches

Taking part in the competitions of scientific-technical programs for 2006-2008 the institute took grants on the following projects:

• working out certain medicinal plants growing technology with the aim to increase alkaloids content in them;
• creating oral antidiabetes preparations technology and their standardization on the basis of local raw materials

At present the Pharmacopoeia Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan Health Ministry has approved and allowed to use in medical practice more than 40 normative-technical documents on remedies. In 2006 two projects of the Provisional Pharmacopoeial Papers were approved and 6 more projects are in the examination stage.
The institute pays a special attention to inculcating scientific researches results on production. New original remedies have been inculcated on production in a short space of time, among them such substances and medicinal forms as "Powder of purified mumiyo", "Novbahtit", "Glycoinuvit", "Gepatopheron" (soluion for injections), "Kupir" and "Pyracin" preparations, growth stimulator "Aspamar", "Glypil" tablets, biologically active additions "Tablets of Stevia rebandiana Bertoni dry extract 0,05 g", "Roots of Althaea - Althaeae nudiflorae", "Roots and rhizome of Inila grandis L."; in 2006 the preparation "Kobalt-30" (substance and tablets) was allowed to use in medical practice. At present the preparations "Liquid extract of Handelia trichophylla (Schrenk.) Heimerl.", "Liquid extract from Origanum, tittanthum L. herb", "Pertussin-D", "Dry extract from Ziziphora pedicellata Paziy et Vved.", "Dry extract tablets from Ziziphora pedicellata Paziy et Vved." are undergoing an examination and clinical tests; "Propolis ointment" project of the Provisional Pharmacopoeial Paper has been worked out.

The following methodic recommendations developed by the institute scientific workers are successfully used, among them are:

• methods of cipermetrin, danitol and hydrochlortiazid isolation from pesticides biological object (Forensic and Medical Commission of Experts Centre);
• methods of determining sum of alfa-pesticides in aqueous solutions and biological liquids by spectrophotometry and thin layer chromatography (Forensic and Medical Commission of Experts Centre);
• recommendations on improving open joint-stock company "Uzhimfarm" activities on increasing life cycle of euphyllin preparation in bronchial asthma treatment;
• methods of calculation and modeling efficacy and determining needs in remedies used in treating bronchial asthma (The Republic of Uzbekistan specialized scientific allergological centre) and others.

At present 23 post-graduate students and 30 competitors are working at their theses. 2 researchers are working for a doctor's degree. Side by side with their research work they take an active part in social and pedagogical activities of the institute, in scientific conferences, symposia, competitions.

The Student Scientific Society is working in the institute; among its members are more than 150 talented students of the institute. They take part in the state scientific and technical and innovation programs under the guidance of the experienced teachers. The Student Scientific Society conduct annual student scientific conferences and the winner are rewarded with costly presents. A special attention is paid to the work with gifted students from which candidates to master's and postgraduate studies are chosen.

For last 5 years 30 theses for a candidate's degree and 2 theses for a Doctor's degree have been defended.
